Pup Scholar offers a small number of thoughtfully designed services that reflect a relationship-centered approach to canine care and behavior. While each service serves a different role—from behavior counseling to in-home caretaking—they are united by a shared focus on understanding, responsibility, and ethical care. Availability and format vary by service, and all offerings are intentionally limited to protect quality and depth of care

01] Canine Caretaking — Live-In Companionship & Concierge

Continuity-focused, in-home caretaking for when families travel

What This Service Is

This offering is designed for families who travel and want their dogs—and their home—cared for with consistency, discretion, and continuity. Rather than rotating caregivers or short visits, this model provides live-in, in-home companionship, allowing dogs to remain in their familiar environment while maintaining their normal routines, rhythms, and expectations.

This work fulfills the role commonly thought of as pet sitting, while extending far beyond it. Care is centered on companionship, attunement, and stewardship, with the goal of preserving stability for both the dog and the household while clients are away.

How Care Is Provided

Care is provided through a live-in caretaker model, in which a dedicated care practitioner resides in the home for the duration of travel. Time alone for dogs is intentionally limited, daily routines are maintained as closely as possible, and all activities are discussed and agreed upon in advance.

In addition to direct care and companionship, this service may include thoughtful concierge-level support related to the dog’s daily life and the functioning of the household, such as:

  • Coordinating veterinary or grooming appointments

  • Transporting dogs to pre-approved activities or services

  • Managing supplies and routine needs

  • Communicating with or coordinating other service providers

  • Light household upkeep related to the dog’s care and daily flow

The home is maintained according to the household’s preferences and prepared for the family’s return.

Evaluation & Relationship-Building

All live-in caretaking engagements begin with an evaluation and get-to-know-you process. This includes time spent with the dog and household prior to travel to understand routines, preferences, boundaries, and expectations. Care is never standardized or interchangeable; each engagement is intentionally curated to reflect the dog’s needs, the household environment, and the humans involved in daily care.

Depending on the situation, care may be provided by a single dedicated practitioner or a small, coordinated team to ensure continuity, safety, and reliability—particularly during extended travel.

Who This Service Is Best Suited For

  • Families who travel and want their dogs to remain at home with consistent companionship

  • Dogs who do best with stability, routine, and familiar environments

  • Households seeking discretion, trust, and professional stewardship

  • Clients who value continuity and individualized care over task-based services

Availability & Scope

Availability for this level of care is intentionally limited. Services are offered on a selective, waitlist-only basis to protect quality, depth, and continuity of care. This model is designed for companion dogs who are integral members of the household and for families who prioritize thoughtful, relationship-centered caretaking.

Canine Caretaking — Daytime Enrichment & Development

Relationship-centered support for dogs during the workweek

What This Service Is

This offering is designed for families who want meaningful, structured support for their dogs during the day while they are working or otherwise unavailable. Rather than brief visits or standardized walks, this model prioritizes intentional time spent with the dog, focused on enrichment, learning, and relationship-building.

Care is shaped around what each individual dog enjoys, needs, and benefits from most—supporting healthy development, emotional regulation, and well-being within the context of everyday life.

How Care Is Provided

Daytime caretaking visits are scheduled on a regular or as-needed basis and are intentionally structured around activities that are appropriate and beneficial for each dog. This may include:

  • Enrichment and exploratory activities

  • Socialization and confidence-building experiences

  • Support with skill development or foundational training goals

  • Age-appropriate engagement for puppies or adolescents

  • Calm companionship for dogs who benefit from presence and routine

Visits are not task-based or interchangeable. Time is spent engaging with the dog in ways that align with their personality, preferences, and developmental needs, rather than simply completing a checklist of services.

Evaluation & Individualized Planning

All ongoing daytime caretaking begins with an evaluation and relationship-building process. Time is spent getting to know the dog, household routines, and caregiver goals. From there, activities and engagement are thoughtfully planned and adjusted over time based on the dog’s responses and changing needs.

This approach allows caretaking to support—not disrupt—the broader caregiving and behavioral goals within the household.

Who This Service Is Best Suited For

  • Families who work outside the home and want more than basic check-ins

  • Dogs who benefit from enrichment, engagement, and structured companionship

  • Puppies and adolescents needing support with development and routine

  • Dogs who experience boredom, stress, or difficulty being alone for long periods

  • Households seeking relationship-centered care rather than task-based services

Availability & Scope

Availability for daytime caretaking services is limited and depends on caregiver availability within the service area. Ongoing care schedules are offered selectively to protect consistency, quality, and depth of engagement.
